Invokana®(canagliflozin) is indicated for the treatment of adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise:

  • As monotherapy when metformin is considered inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindications
  • In addition to other medicinal products for the treatment of diabetes

For study results with respect to combination of therapies, effects on glycaemic control, cardiovascular and renal events, and the populations studied, please refer to section 4.4, 4.5 and 5.1 of the Invokana SmPC.

Professor Kar has been a Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust since 2008. He has been the Clinical Director of Diabetes from 2009-2015, being part of a multiple national award-winning department (Health Services Journal Awards / British Medical Journal Awards) due to its services and care provided. He is also the co-creator of TAD talks (Talking About Diabetes) and the type 1 diabetes comic (“Origins”) while also involved in setting up a type 1 diabetes information portal, T1resources.uk. Additionally, Professor Kar is Associate National Clinical Director of Diabetes with NHS England leading on digital innovation.
